Lilian Wiens is originally from Paraguay and grew up in a musical family, which is how she was inspired to start singing and playing music. She studied classical piano with Professor JL Miranda, and voice performance with Professor Rosa Gonzalez at the Conservatory in paraguay. She later studied double bass at the conservatory level as well, and was a member of the Paraguayan Youth Orchestra and the Miranda chamber ensemble as a double bass player. She is proud to be the first female double bassist in the Paraguayuan orchestra. She has also been a member of gospel, concert and chamber choirs as a soprano voice in Paraguay.
When she migrated to Canada she continued to teach piano lessons privately. She has published recordings and live performances in Folk, German, Gospel, and Latin American genres with more than one band in Winnipeg since coming to Canada. She has played in the UMSO Orchestra, and the Concert Choir of the University of Manitoba. She is currently a member of the University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble.

Do you have an interest in jazz? Perhaps in music school and a career in music? This class is for you! We'll explore many different facets around the idea of playing in a jazz small group, based loosely around what you might experience in a university setting. We'll learn standards (forms, soloing, etc), deconstruct and write new tunes (composition), and explore the business side of music (booking gigs, recording, etc). Open instrumentation (e.g. piano/guitar, bass, drums + horns, not limited to that).
Rehearsals will be Friday from 6-7pm.
Limited spots are available!
Ages 13-18
